Here is my noobie question: Is it in any way possible that someone in-game can lend you a festival hat and you can then have it dupicated?

You have to earn the hat in-game, being present during an event's finale etc. No other way.

nope its like armor. its customized to you so you CAN give it to someone, it just wont do them any good because they cant wear it/have it put into the festival hat armor crafter.

yes their is one other way that npc that gives you the hat for extra shards but i think they only put him out when they was an issue. like when people couldnt get another hat even thought they were in that zone
